How to win the language war.

Mind rambling as I get the kids off to school this morning. Guy up North (PA I think) appears on Fox news and it's an update to a story where he posts a sign in his busy sandwich shop that says something to the effect: "This is America. Please order in English!" There is a backdrop of the red/white/blue and an eagle. My thoughts this morning: why fight it! I personally plan to learn Spanish so that when our Hispanic overlords take over the United States, I will be in a place to be a toady/stool pidgeon/lacky and not get my life destroyed.

You may say "That will never happen..." but just look at the signs. Bilingual classes in public schools, multiple languages on public forms, ballot information required in English and Spanish. The list is increasing. When was the last time you called a friendly phone service (medical, dental, public service, whatever...) and didn't hear "Por servicio in Espanol, pressio el numbero cinco" (That just happened to be an option on my doctor's phone service when I called yesterday).

Think about it and you will see I am right. Give up this one language dream. We never spoke one language anyway (southern drawl, ebonics, northern dialects, western dialects, cajun, ...). Go ahead and learn "Latin American Spanish". You'll be glad you did!
